Long bed refers to the extended bed length option for F-100 trucks, offering 8 feet or more of cargo space on a wheelbase of approximately 131 to 133 inches. These trucks were the preferred choice for buyers who prioritized hauling capacity and work utility over compactness.

In their working life, long bed F-100s were the backbone of commercial and agricultural fleets. The extra bed length accommodated full sheets of plywood, longer materials, and bulkier loads that would not fit in a short bed. Many long bed trucks were ordered as base-trim work vehicles, which means survivors often show heavy use but may also have low mileage if they served as farm trucks.

In the collector market, long bed F-100s are generally less expensive than equivalent short bed models, making them an excellent entry point for buyers on a budget. The longer proportions are less popular for custom builds, though some builders appreciate the stretched stance. Long bed trucks are also good candidates for SuperCab conversions where the extended cab pairs naturally with the longer chassis. When evaluating a long bed, inspect the bed floor and crossmembers carefully, as work trucks tend to have more bed damage.
